DR. THANAMMAL RAVICHANDRAN

Dr. Thanammal Ravichandran, a veterinary graduate from Madras Veterinary College, Tamil Nadu, was inspired to pursue veterinary sciences after witnessing the economic hardships her family faced due to the loss of their livestock. Her dedication to animal welfare and rural development led her to work with organizations like The Brooke’s Hospital for Animals in New Delhi, where she played a key role in improving livelihoods through equine welfare. She further honed her expertise by earning a master’s degree in Agricultural Sciences, specializing in Rural Development Economics from the University of Hohenheim, Germany.

With a strong focus on women’s empowerment in the livestock sector, Dr. Thanammal pursued her PhD at the University of Hohenheim, researching inclusive dairy development models in India. Her work highlighted the effectiveness of women-only dairy cooperatives in enhancing income, nutrition, and knowledge-sharing. She has led numerous research and development projects, including small ruminant value chain studies and digital innovations for dairy productivity. Her contributions to livestock development have been widely recognized, with her research published in international journals and featured in Forbes.
