NARENDRA PAWAR
Born and raised in a humble family of a marginal farmer from a town Saswad in Pune District, Narendra’s upbringing has an active agricultural background. From his schooldays, Narendra saw the hardship of his parents and also that of the surrounding small farmers – from raising funds for sowing seeds, putting up laborious efforts till the crop reaches its harvesting stage and then taking it to markets to sell the agro products through middlemen. And as a child he silently witnessed this entire process left hardly any or, many a times, no profits for these farmers.
Based on this firsthand experience in agriculture he always dreamt of developing an ecosystem that would effectively help to the marginal farmers. After doing his MBA, in 2011, Narendra thought out a plan that would facilitate marginal farmers, and among them many were his childhood friends, to sell their products directly to the consumers. The thinking behind the plan was to eliminate the middlemen to get the right price for the farmers. Also the consumers would get fresh produces and a WIN-WIN situation be created for both the stake holders of the business.
With his leadership qualities, archetypical hardworking and never say die characteristics observed in the Indian farmers and absolute dedication to his goals, Narendra started ‘Weekly Farmer Market’ in Pune, initially for fruits and vegetables. The market received a superb response from people and it grew to such an extent that the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi took notice of the popularity of the market and mentioned about this initiative in his weekly radio address ‘Man Ki Baat’. Today the ‘Weekly Farmer’s Market’ is being organized in Pune, Mumbai and Aurangabad at many prominent locations in these cities. Also, the Weekly Farmer Market is offering grocery food, dairy products, spices etc. along with fresh vegetables and fruits.
Narendra also focused his attention in developing other effective sales channels and direct linkage opportunities for marginal farmers. From time to time he has been organizing Rice Festivals & Mango Festivals with the help of his team and young farmers & entrepreneurs. He is also actively organizing various consumer exhibitions in cities that would provide a platform for small entrepreneurs and farmers who are engaged in manufacturing processed food products on a small scale.
Launched in 2024, Narendra’s latest initiative ‘Harvest Community’ offers region specific staple food such as grains, cereals, pulses, oil seeds, spices to consumers living in large cities. Again, this initiative also is aimed to achieve welfare of farmers, keeping an eye on the benefits of the city consumers. ‘Harvest Community’ products are receiving a tremendous response from the consumers due to its originality and authenticity perceived by the consumers in the form of taste, aroma & nutrition.
Domestic and International exposure of about 14 years of creating profit generating sales channels for marginal farmers, agricultural marketing, on field farming experience and his excellent communication skills, today Narendra is in demand as a Subject Expert & Motivator speaker and is frequently called upon to deliver lectures in reputed conferences and Seminars.
